Men's Basketball Signs Versatile Transfer Tru Washington From Miami

Washington played two seasons under Richard Pitino at New Mexico.
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University head coach Richard Pitino announced the signing of Tru Washington to an athletics aid agreement. Washington, a 6-4 and 204-pound guard from Phoenix, Ariz., played as a junior this past season for the Miami Hurricanes. Washington played two seasons (2023-25) under Pitino at New Mexico. He has played in the NCAA Tournament in each of his three collegiate seasons.

Washington played in 31 games this past season at Miami, starting 19 times, for a team that finished 26-9 overall, 13-5 in the ACC and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Washington averaged 11.9 points and 4.0 rebounds and was ranked fourth in the ACC in steals at 1.8 per game as a junior.

Washington, a 2025 All-Mountain West Team Honorable Mention selection, was a key part of back-to-back Mountain West Champion and NCAA Tournament teams at New Mexico under Pitino. Washington averaged 11.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals (ranked third in the Mountain West Conference) per game as a sophomore, while starting 33 games, as the Lobos finished 27-8 overall and reached the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. UNM recorded a 17-3 league record and captured the 2024-25 Mountain West Conference Regular Season Championship. In the 2023-24 season, Washington appeared in 35 of 36 games as New Mexico finished 26-10 record, winning the Mountain West Tournament Championship and returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.
