Baseball Takes Game Three at Seton Hall, 3-1, for the Series Sweep of the Pirates

Musketeers face Vanderbilt on Tuesday evening in Nashville
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Xavier picked up a second-straight weekend sweep on Sunday, taking a 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon to move to 3-0 in the series.
The Musketeers improved to 19-22 (9-3 BIG EAST) on the season, while the Pirates dropped to 11-20 (0-9 BIG EAST).
Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run from Clay Burdette, his team-high matching 12th of the season. He added another run in the third after Jorge Valdes took a lead-off walk, stole second, moved to third on an error and came home on a single from Josh Stonehouse
Ashton Chronister made the start, going 5.0 innings with only one run allowed, matching his career-high with six strikeouts. Owen Poole and Garrett Helsel combined for the final 4.0 innings, allowing just one Pirate hit the rest of the way.
The Musketeers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth, with Peter Johnson and Luke Hammodn getting aboard on walks, and Landon Mensik loading the bases with a single. Tommy Townsend singled to left field to bring in Johnson for the three-run lead.
The Pirates responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, but were unable cut into the deficit any further, setting the final score at 3-1.
Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, April 21, traveling to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt, set for a 7:00 p.m. ET start on SEC Network+.

- Owen Poole entered with two on and no outs in the sixth, recording one out, a strikeout.
- Garrett Helsel entered with two on and one out in the sixth, going the final 3.2Â innings, not allowing a run, and giving up just one hit. Helsel finished with four strikeouts to two walks and picked up his fifth save of the season.
