Musketeers return home to host St. John's for three-game series
NASHVILLEÂ - Xavier baseball fell to Vanderbilt, 11-1, in eight innings at Charles Hawkins Field on Tuesday evening.
The Musketeers moved to 19-23 on the season, while the Commodores moved to 25-17.
A solo home run for Clay Burdette gave Xavier a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but a three-run shot for the Dores in the bottom of the frame put Vanderbilt in front 3-1.
A run for Vandy in the third made it a three-run advantage, and a five-run frame in the fifth made it a 9-1 advantage for the Commodores. Vanderbilt scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to move ahead 11-1, ending the game on a run rule.
Xavier returns home to host St. John's for a three-game series, running Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, at Hayden Field.

AT THE PLATE
- Clay Burdette finished 1-2 with a walk, finishing with an RBI and a run scored after hitting his team-high 13th home run of the season.
- Tanner Thomas (2-4) and Luke Hammond (2-4) each recorded pair of hits.
- Landon Mensik got on with three walks. Jorge Valdes also got aboard with one of Xavier's five walks for the day.

- Owen Poole came in with two on and two out in the fifth, going 1.1 scoreless innings without giving up a hit, striking out a pair.
- Eli Bridenthal came in for the seventh, going 1.0 inning without allowing a run or a hit, striking out two and walking one.
- Trevor Geddes entered for the eighth, allowing two runs, one earned on three hits.
- Xavier's pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts.
