Baseball Takes 3-2 Win Over Creighton to Even Series

Rubber match, regular season finale set for 1:00 p.m. at Hayden Field on Saturday
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier took a 3-2 win over Creighton in game two on Friday at Hayden Field to even the series at 1-1, with one game remaining.
The Musketeers improved to 26-28 (14-6 BIG EAST), while the Bluejays moved to 29-23 (13-7 BIG EAST).
Creighton took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run. Luke Hammond evened it at 1-1 with his seventh home run of the season in the second.Â
The Musketeers moved in front in the third, with Clay Burdette reaching on an error and coming home on a double from Josh Stonehouse to make it a 2-1 Xavier lead.
Xavier took the one-run lead into the eighth where another solo home run for the Bluejays tied it at 2-2.
The Musketeers responded in the bottom of the frame after JD Crisp, pinch running for Tommy Townsend, moved to third on a single from Peter Johnson and came home on a hit from Tanner Thomas to put Xavier in front 3-2.
Ashton Chronister and Garrett Helsel combined to limit Creighton to just two runs, both on solo home runs, to take the win and even the series at a game apiece.
Xavier wraps up the regular season against the Bluejays on Saturday, set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Hayden Field. The Musketeers will celebrate Senior Day ahead of the game.

- Garrett Helsel entered with one on and one out in the seventh, going the final 2.2 innings. Helsel allowed one run on three hits, striking out two without issuing a walk. He picked up the win, his fourth of the season.
