Musketeers Fall in Finale at No. 3 Georgia Tech

Townsend homers twice, Burdette hits 17th home run of the season in 14-6 setback
The Musketeers moved to 22-27Â on the year, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 39-8.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead with a six-run first frame, and added a run on a solo home run in the third to lead 7-0 headed into the fourth.
Tommy Townsend got the Musketeers on the board in the fourth with his sixth home run of the season, bringing in Josh Stonehouse, who got on with a hit-by-pitch, to cut the GT lead to 7-2.
Runs in the fourth and the fifth for Georgia Tech stretched the lead out to 10-2, but the Musketeers cut the lead back to four with a four-run sixth. Clay Burdette led off the inning with a home run, his team-high 17th of the season. Stonehouse, after being hit by another pitch, moved to third on a double from Jonathan Fitz and scored on a groundball from Luke Hammond. Townsend hit his second two-run shot of the day, bringing in Fitz, to make it 10-6 after six and a half.
Georgia Tech picked up two runs in both the seventh and the eighth innings to set the final score at 14-6.
Xavier returns home to host Michigan on Tuesday, May 5, set for a 3:00 p.m. start on XAVIER+.

- Tommy Townsend matched his career high with four RBIs and scored a pair of runs after knocking in a pair of two-run home runs, giving him seven homers for hte season.
- Clay Burdette finished with three hits (3-5), for his team-best 19th multi-hit game of the season. Burdette drove in an RBI and a scored a after hitting his team-high 17th home run of the season. He's now reached safely in the last 18 games.
- Josh Stonehouse extended his team-best reached safely streak to 23 games with a pair of hit-by-pitches, adding to his single season record total with 22 for the season. Stonehouse came around to score a pair of runs, giving him a team-high matching 38 runs scored for the season.
- Jonathan Fitz finished 1-3 with a double and scored a run, extending his hit streak to six games, the longest current streak by a Musketeer.
- Luke Hammond finished with a hit (1-4) and an RBI.
- Jorge Valdes reached on a walk, the only one for the Musketeers on the day, and a hit-by-pitch.
- Evan Vasiliou made the start, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out one and issuing one walk in 3.0 innings of work.
- Jack DeTienne came in for the fourth, going 3.1 innings with five runs allowed on seven hits, walking three and striking out one.
- Trevor Geddes entered with one out in the seventh, going the final 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out one.
