Xavier Goes 3-0 to Open Home Slate

The Musketeers Defeated Bowling Green 3-0 in the Final Match of Xavier Tournament
CINCINNATI – The Musketeers beat Bowling Green 3-0 to top off the undefeated home opening weekend Saturday, Sept. 12.
Xavier moves to 6-3 overall and 3-0 at home.
The Musketeers and the Falcons battled through the first set with Xavier coming out on top 27-25. The two teams never strayed more than two points from each other for the duration of the set. The Musketeers tallied 15 kills in the first set from seven different players. Xavier secured the set off back-to-back Falcon errors.
At the start of the second set, Bowling Green and Xavier battled through a minute long point that Xavier claimed. XU went up 8-4 in the beginning of the second frame with five kills in that time. Bowling Green cut Xavier's lead to 10-8, but a kill from Margo Kemp and an attack error brought Xavier back up four. The Musketeers went on a 5-0 scoring run with two aces from Jenna Barhorst. XU led 21-13, but Bowling Green went on an 8-1 streak to come back 21-22. Xavier confirmed their 25-22 victory in the set with a kill from Catherine Flaharty and to go up 2-0 in the match.
A 7-0 run for the Muskies helped secure an early lead in the third set. When Xavier scored 15 points, the Musketeers had held the Falcons to just three. XU was leading 21-12 when Bowling Green made an attempted comeback managing 18 points total, but it would not be enough to fend off the Musketeers. A kill from Ava Tilden finalized the match and marked the second sweep of the day.

Kemp hit .389 with a match high nine kills.

Kelsey Niesen had 21 digs while Charlotte Moriarty had 19.

Four Musketeers had aces with Kasey Quenichet, Niesen and Barhorst tabbing two each.

The team hit .189 on the evening with 41 total kills.

Xavier goes 3-0 at home for the second year in a row.

Xavier is set to host crosstown rival Cincinnati Friday, Sept. 18 with first serve set for 6 p.m.

Akron will travel to Xavier to follow on Sunday, Sept. 20.
