Xavier Defeats Southern Indiana 3-1

ATLANTA – Xavier volleyball beat Southern Indiana 3-1 Saturday, Sept. 5 in the second match of the Georgia Tech Tournament.
The Musketeers move to 3-2 on the 2026 season.
Macy Hatkevich started the match with a service ace and three kills followed to bring the Musketeers up 5-1. Jenna Barhorst extended the lead 8-4 with a service ace of her own. Ava Tilden had four kills in the set, and Xavier won the set 25-18.
XU took the second set, winning 25-23. Southern Indiana and Xavier were battling until Charlotte Moriarty hit a service ace to go up 8-6. The Eagles reclaimed a two-point lead, but three consecutive kills from Tilden, McKinley Boehm and Quinci Thomas propelled Xavier ahead 13-12. Southern Indiana led 21-20 but Tilden had two kills to take a 22-21 lead for XU. The Musketeers won the 25th point on an Eagle error.
The Musketeers dropped set three 25-17. Southern Indiana started the set on a 5-0 run, and Xavier would not catch back up. Freshman Cami Sher tabbed her first career kill in the third set to help Xavier's effort. The Musketeers had nine kills in the set, but it would not prove enough.
The victory was secured in the fourth set which Xavier took 25-18. The teams were tied 16 all and XU pulled away with a kill from Moriarty and back-to-back Eagle errors. Hatkevich tallied a second service ace for the 22nd point, followed by three consecutive kills for the win.

Hatkevich led the team in assists with 24 while also snagging five digs.

Thomas hit .350 with 10 kills and four digs.

As a team, Xavier hit .203 in the match.

Kelsey Niesen had 18 digs in the match and has 90 total through five games. She averages 3.85 per set.

Xavier is set to play Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. for the final match of the weekend.
