David Costa joined the Xavier men's soccer program in January of 2017 in the role of associate head coach.
Costa came to XU after six seasons at NC State, including three as the associate head coach for the Wolfpack. Prior to his stint in North Carolina, Costa coached on the staff of current BIG EAST rival Butler with head coach Kelly Findley.
During his final season at BU, Costa helped the Bulldogs to a No. 5 national-ranking and a school-record 16 wins.
In addition to his high-level college coaching experience, Costa has served in several prominent roles with youth soccer teams, including a stint as the head coach for Carmel United in Carmel, Ind.
Costa was named 2008 and 2010 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Central Conference Coach of the Year and the 2008 NSCAA Midwest Regional Coach of the Year.

A four-year collegiate soccer player at UNC Charlotte from 2000-03, Costa played in 42 matches during his collegiate career. He received the David Schlee Memorial Award, which was given for determination and desire to succeed as a member of the Charlotte men's soccer program.
In his senior season, Costa helped the 49ers reach the finals of the Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship for just the second time in school history. During his tenure on the men's soccer team, Costa assisted with the NCAA-sponsored Youth Education through Sports (YES) clinic three times.

Costa holds a United States Soccer Federation 'A' License and performs player identification and has performed training evaluations for the US Youth National Teams and USSF Development Academy clubs in the Southeast.
Costa earned B.A. degrees in psychology and history in 2004 and a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Charlotte in 2005.
He and his wife, Meghan, who is a 2003 Xavier graduate, have two sons, Nicholas and Benjamin.
