Richmond Women's Soccer Team Blanks Xavier

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA – Richmond senior Edda Gardarsdottir records her third goal of the year to advance the Spiders’ women’s soccer team to a victory over visiting Xavier tonight at First Market Stadium. The Spiders improve to 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Musketeers fall to 6-7-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the conference.
Richmond opened up its offensive attack in the fifth minute after Gardarsdottir scored off a free kick to lead the Spiders into halftime, 1-0. Senior Molly Rettig added an insurance goal at 81:30 after she converted on a pass from freshman Alex Twellman.
The Spiders outshot the Musketeers 18-4. Xavier junior goalkeeper Andrea Garber (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville) made seven saves on the night, while Richmond senior goalkeeper Megan Cox registered two saves in recording the shutout.
Xavier visits George Washington at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, the finale of a four-match road trip.
