Olanrewaju's Debut Spoiled in XU Loss

Freshman Suntana Granderson and Tara Boothe each scored 12 to lead Xavier. Boothe also had eight rebounds in the game.
Junior Adeola Olanrewaju, a transfer from N.C. State, recorded a double-double in her first game with the Musketeers as she scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, nine of which came on the offensive end of the court.
Tabitha Pool scored a career-high 33 points to pace the Wolverines (6-6). Pool also had 13 rebounds in the game.
XU trailed by 13 at halftime, and let the deficit grow to 17 as the Musketeers went down 46-29 just over five minutes into the second half.
XU responded with a 13-0 run, thanks in large part to eight points from Granderson, to close the gap to four, 46-42, with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Michigan built the lead back to double digits in the next two minutes, and Xavier was never able to seriously threaten after that.
The teams played closely in the first 10 minutes of the game, as they battled through a couple of lead changes and ties.
The Wolverines opened up seven-point margin with a 20-13 lead with 9:48 left in the half.
XU responded, and with a 7-3 run was right back within three of Michigan. Xavier closed the gap to two, 27-25, with 3:58 showing on the clock.
The Musketeers were held scoreless through the remainder of the period and trailed 38-25 at halftime.
The Musketeers will return to action after a short holiday break next Sunday at Pittsburgh. Xavier returns to Cintas Center at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 against St. Francis (Pa.).
