Women's Tennis Edged by Bowling Green

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team battled with Bowling Green for five hours on Saturday afternoon before a winner was decided with the Falcons pulling out a 4-3 win in a match that saw four of the six singles matches go to the third set. XU falls to 4-2 with the loss while BG improves to 5-4.

XU went up early in the match with victories in two of the three doubles matches. At No. 1, Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney improved to 5-1 in dual action with an 8-4 defeat of Ashley Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum. The junior tandem of Alicia Papa and Jackie Vilines clinched the doubles point for the Musketeers at No. 2 where they recorded an 8-6 win over Kelsey Jakupcin and Heidi Romer.

Emily Tuchscherer improved to 2-0 at No. 4.

In singles action, four of the six matches went to the deciding third set but the Musketeers were only able to claim a pair of victories as Bowling Green recorded four wins to earn the team win. In the first position, Clary claimed her 11th win of the season and improved to 94-26 for her career with a straight-set defeat of Ashley Jakupcin, 6-2, 6-1. Emily Tuchscherer recorded the other singles win for the Musketeers as the senior moved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over Andrea Meister at No. 5.

Xavier will return to the courts on Tuesday, Feb. 28 when the Musketeers travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the 49ers.
