Matthews Leads Men's Tennis to Fourth Straight Win

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Xavier took three of the four singles matches that were contested in winning an Atlantic 10 men's tennis match at St. Bonaventure, 4-1, on Friday evening. Sophomore Doug Matthews went 2-0 in helping the Musketeers improve to 9-9 overall, 5-1 in conference play.

Matthews defeated Alejandro Nery 6-1, 6-7, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. The sophomore teamed with senior Jeremy Miller to beat Nery and Luce, 9-8 (4) in No. 1 doubles.

Also in singles, sophomore Ra'ees Ismail and freshman J.T. Torbeck each continued their impressive play by also going unbeaten for the contest. Ismail rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles over Leo Mochizuki, while Torbeck beat Andrew Hart in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 in No. 4 singles. The duo then beat Stankovic and Hart in second doubles, 8-6.

Two singles matches were not finished once the contest had been decided in XU's favor.

The Musketeers return to action Sunday, hosting Temple at the Western Racquet Club at 10 a.m. ET.
