Men's Tennis Opens Up BIG EAST Championship Play with No. 6 Seed Creighton

Third-seeded Musketeers take on Bluejays in Quarterfinals, set for a 9 AM start
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis heads to Cayce, S.C., to take part in the 2026 BIG EAST Tennis Championships, with the Musketeers set to open up play on Friday, April 17 at 9:00 a.m. against No. 6 seed Creighton.
Xavier earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament bracket, matching the Musketeers' best seeding since joining the conference for the 2013-14 season, also earning a No. 3 seed in 2022.
The Musketeers are 9-13 overall on the season, with a 3-2 mark in BIG EAST matches, taking wins over Marquette, Creighton and Butler, while falling to top two seeds St. John's and DePaul.
Last season's squad advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals with a 4-3 win over Butler, the first time the Musketeers advanced out of the Quarterfinals since 2022.

- The 2026 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by JEEP returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 16-19, with Monday, April 20, serving as a potential rain date if necessary.Â
- Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the tenth consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.
- Seeds for the championships were determined by a committee that reviewed each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
- There is no charge for admission. Merchandise will be available for purchase through Shop.BIGEAST.com.

- Creighton, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, enters the post season at 12-13 overall and 3-4 in BIG EAST matches, taking wins over Georgetown, Villanova and Marquette, while falling to St. John's, Xavier, Butler and DePaul.
- In the regular season match-up, Xavier topped the Bluejays, 4-3, on April 3, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to take the win. The victory was Xavier's first over Creighton since 2022.
- Creighton picked up a 6-2 win on the No. 2 doubles court, against Andrew Spurck and Nick Herdoiza, and a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court, against Bode Campbell and Kyle Totorica to take the point. The Bluejays made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Samuel Frizelle on the No. 5 singles court.Â
- Bode Campbell took a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 6 singles court to cut the Creighton lead to 2-1, and Nick Herdoiza tied it up a 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court No. 1. Alex Kotarski put Xavier in front, 3-2, with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court No. 2. The Bluejays pulled even at 3-3 with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win on court No. 3 against Max Pettingell. The match was decided on court No. 4, with Andrew Spurck coming back to take the second set to force a deciding third, eventually clinching the match for the Musketeers with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.
- Creighton went 16-11 last season with a 4-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bluejays advanced to the BIG EAST Finals with wins over Marquette and Xavier, falling to St. John's in the Championship.
THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier returns a trio from last year's squad that collected 10 wins and advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals, senior Kyle Totorica, and sophomores Alex Kotarski and Andrew Spurck.
- The Musketeers added three transfers to the roster, senior Samuel Frizelle, who transferred from Florida Southern, junior Nick Herdoiza, who comes to Xavier from Northwestern, and Max Pettingell, a redshirt-freshman coming from Auburn.
- Xavier also added a pair of freshmen to the roster, Bode Campbell, a four-star recruit out of Bloomington, Minn., and Lukas Grossman, a four-star from Atlant
