LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Xavier men's tennis team fell to 0-2 on the season after a 7-0 loss at No. 30 Louisville Thursday afternoon.
In the second doubles match the tandem of juniors Brandon MacDonald and Philip Diaz fought hard but fell to the Cardinal duo of Robert Hall and Albert Wagner 8-6.
"We really had a rough day today," said head coach Eric Toth. "After playing pretty well and competing exceptionally well last night against Ohio State, we just did not have it today. Louisville has another good team, but we made it far too easy for them. Our guys know the importance of being ready for each match, but today we were not up for the challenge. The good news is, is it's early, we have a very workable group of kids, and know they will work hard in the next week to prepare us for next weekend's matches."
In singles play, sophomore Jimmy Roebker fell to Andrew Carter 7-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 match. MacDonald fell in the No. 4 singles slot to Albert Wagner 6-1, 6-2.
Xavier returns to action Friday, January 27 as the Musketeers head north to face Toledo in a 2 p.m. contest.
