Win Streak Snapped in Omaha, Musketeers Fall in Three Sets

Xavier volleyball returns to action on Sunday at Georgetown
OMAHA, Neb. - Xavier volleyball had its five-match win streak snapped at conference leader Creighton on Friday night in front of 1,913 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Musketeers fell in three sets (20-25, 22-25, 15-25).

Xavier moves to 15-11 on the year and 11-4 in BIG EAST action, remaining in second place in the conference standings. Creighton moved to 21-8 (15-1 BIG EAST) with the win, capturing its second consecutive regular-season title.

Kristen Massa had eight kills and hit .429 to pace the Musketeers offensively. Sofia Peterson added eight kills, while Abbey Bessler had six. Both McKena Estes and Mackenzi Humm had 14 assists on the night.

Defensively, Bessler had a team-high 12 digs. Creighton had four more blocks (10-6) on the night. Brooke Betts paced XU with a team-high four block assists.

The opening set had nine ties and five lead changes. Tied at 18, Creighton pulled away for the 25-20 win by using a 7-2 run.

Set two had five ties and two lead changes. The Musketeers got within one, 22-21, down the stretch before the Bluejays took advantage of two XU errors and got a kill from Maggie Baumert to win the set, 25-22.

Creighton posted a match-high .625 hitting percentage in the third set to capture the stanza, 25-15. Jess Bird hit .800 with four of her match-high 14 kills in the third stanza.

Baumert added a match-high 34 assists for Creighton, while Jaali Winters had a match-high 13 digs.
