Turner, Zantt Lead Musketeers Past Lady Hawks

Musketeers move to 2-0 at Cintas Center this season
CINCINNATI - Aliyah Zantt scored a game-high 19 points and Marquia Turner added a career-high 14 points and eight assists as the Musketeers defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 61-56, on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 2-1 on the year, while the Lady Hawks dropped to 1-3. The win was Xavier's 180th win at Cintas Center.
Turner was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and 2-for-2 from the foul line. The sophomore guard's eight assists were the most by a Xavier player since Ty O'Neill had eight versus High Point on Nov. 19, 2012. She also added a career-high seven rebounds.
Zantt was 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the win. The senior guard added three, three pointers and three assists. The Musketeers finished the game with eight more assists, 17-9, than Maryland Eastern Shore.
The two squads were tied at six in the opening minutes before the Musketeers scored six unanswered points to take a 12-6 lead with 1:18 on the clock in the first period. Xavier led by as many as 14 points three times, its largest lead of the game, in the second period before taking a 26-17 lead into the locker room.
Turner was 3-for-4 from behind the arc in the first half to lead all scorers with nine points. Xavier held a 21-17 advantage on the glass at intermission with Maddison Blackwell leading the Musketeers with five.
Xavier never trailed in the second half, but the Lady Hawks closed within three points, 55-52, with 57 second left in regulation. A Briana Glover layup and four made free throws down the stretch sealed the 61-56 win for the Musketeers.
Zantt scored 15 points in the second half on 5-for-7 shooting, while Turner had seven assists in the stanza. Leah Schaefer matched her career high in rebounding with 12, pulling down eight rebounds in the second half.
Xavier won the battle on the glass, 41-32. The Musketeers were also 10-for-13 from the foul line in the win and 9-for-16 from behind the arc.
Moengaroa Subritzky led three Maryland Eastern Shore players in double figures with 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting. TeAmber Burke added 15 points and team-high six rebounds.
The Musketeers continue their 11-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 25 against Southeastern Louisiana. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
