Balanced Offense Leads to Win Over Lady Lions, Neal Picks Up Win No. 200

Defense allows fewest points in a game since 1980
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball used a balanced offense and a one of the best defensive performances in school history on Wednesday night to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 67-27, at Cintas Center. The Musketeers moved to 3-1 on the year with the win.
Xavier held the Lady Lions (0-6) to 27 points, the fewest allowed by the Musketeers since defeating Maryville, 67-21, on Dec. 5, 1980. The 40-point win is also the largest margin of victory since Nov. 30, 2010 when the Musketeers topped Mississippi Valley State, 85-40.
Xavier also pulled down 64 rebounds in the win, the second most in school history. The Musketeers had 68 rebounds against Wright State on Feb. 12, 1976.
Head coach Brian Neal picked up his 200th career win with the victory. He has posted a 200-69 record in 10 years as a head coach.
The Musketeers opened the game on a 22-8 run, hitting seven of its first 11 shots including three from behind the arc. Xavier never relinquished the lead and led by as many as 25 points, 40-15, with just under a minute left in the first half.
Briana Glover scored eight of her team-high 10 points in the first stanza, going 3-for-4 from the floor. Leah Schaefer added eight points on 3-for-3 shooting. Xavier held a 27-15 advantage on the glass at intermission as Anniina Äijänen, Maddison Blackwell and Schaefer all had four rebounds.
Xavier held onto its commanding lead in the second half, pushing its largest lead to 43 points, 61-18, with 7:56 left in the third period.
Kayla Davis matched Glover's game high with 10 points, hitting three shots from behind the arc. Blackwell, Schaefer and Imani Partlow all added eight points. Aliyah Zantt finished with seven on 3-for-6 shooting.
Äijänen grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds as the Musketeers finished the game with a 64-30 advantage on the glass. Partlow pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds.
Xavier was 21-for-27 from the foul line, paced by Blackwell who was 6-for-6. Southeastern Louisiana was 5-for-9 from the charity stripe.
The Musketeers held the Lady Lions to a .190 field-goal percentage. Xavier scored 22 second-chance points and had 17 points off of turnovers.
Nanna Pool led the Lady Lions with eight points and seven rebounds. Taylin Underwood added four points and a game-high six steals.
Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 28 against Binghamton. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center.
