Ridsdale's Must-See Goal Helps Men's Soccer to Fourth Straight Win

Senior scores team-leading fifth just 49 seconds into match on mind-blowing bicycle kick
CINCINNATI – Senior Alex Ridsdale scored on a highlight-reel bicycle kick 49 seconds into the match and Xavier went on to dominate visiting IPFW, 2-0, for its fourth straight win on Tuesday at Xavier Soccer Complex.
Ridsdale's goal was his team-leading fifth of the season and came right away unassisted as he gathered in a contested header and curled it over IPFW's 6-foot-7 goalkeeper, Raphael Kotzock, with a reverse bicycle kick.
"If you try it 1,000 times in training, it might not come off. It just popped up and I just went for it, and thank god it came off," said Ridsdale. "Rarely do they just pop off like that, so I just tried to concentrate and make good contact – and it went in the back of the net."
Matt Vasquenza added to the Musketeers' lead in the 17th minute, receiving a long pass from Matt Nance and beating Kotzock near post for his third tally of the season.
With the win, Xavier closes its non-conference season at 6-2. The Musketeers had a 11-4 advantage in shots and led 3-2 in corners.
Dallas Jaye improved to 4-0 in goal, making one save on the night to help XU move its scoreless streak to three-plus matches (285:16). The Musketeers last allowed a goal on Sept. 11 at UC.
IPFW fell to 3-5 overall with the loss. XU now leads the all-time series 3-0 against the Mastodons and has outscored IPFW 9-0 in those meetings.
Xavier returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 beginning BIG EAST Conference play at DePaul. First touch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
