Women's Soccer Hosts Villanova at UC's Gettler Stadium on Saturday

Musketeers face Wildcats at noon, XU and VU men follow at 3:30
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer (6-8-1; 0-5-0 BE) returns to Cincinnati to host the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon. The women's match is the first in a double header with VU at UC's Gettler Stadium, with Xavier and Villanova men's soccer facing off 3:30 p.m. The women's soccer match will be streamed through the BIG EAST Digital Network.

• The last time out, Villanova fell, 5-1, at No. 7 Georgetown to move to 3-11 on the season and 1-4 in BIG EAST play in a match that was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

• The loss to GU was the third straight setback for the Wildcats, who fell to DePaul and Providence in that stretch. VU also fell to Butler in its conference opener.
• Villanova's last result came against Creighton, a 3-1 win on Oct. 2. The Wildcats also picked up a 3-2 win in double overtime at La Salle on Sept. 15 and a season-opening 3-2 win against Delaware.
• In addition to the setback to No. 7 Georgetown, the Wildcats also faced another pair of ranked foes in early September, a 5-0 setback against No. 24/9 Minnesota and a 2-0 loss to No. 8 North Carolina. The Wildcats have also faced Drexel, Princeton, Saint Joseph's, Lehigh and Harvard.

• Through 14 games, freshman Kristin Barbour has a team-high six goals. Barbour also ahs a pair of assists for a team-high 14 points.

• Freshman Ida DiClemente matches junior Amanda Vocelka for team-high with three assists. DiClemente also has four tallies for 11 total points, second highest on the team.

•  Senior Emmale Meyer and junior Emily Harris have split time in goal for the Wildcats. Meyer started the first seven games for the Wildcats, appearing in nine total for over 670 minutes in the net. Meyer has allowed 18 goals while saving 36 shots for a .667 save percentage and a GAA of 2.41. Meyer's record stands at 1-6-0.
•  Harris has started the last seven games with eight appearances overall, totaling 611 minutes. Harris has allowed 18 goals and collected 21 shots for a save percentage of .538 with a GAA of 2.65 and a record of 2-5-0.

• The Musketeers are 1-2 in the series with the Wildcats, which dates back to 2013 when the Musketeers joined the BIG EAST.

• Last season, Xavier took the 2-0 win on the road for its first result in the series. Xavier's game winner came in the 11th minute from Maggie Hare off a pass from Emily Calvani. Samantha Dewey scored the insurance goal in the 79th minute from Skylar Groth. Rachel Piccus had nine saves to hold the Wildcats scoreless.

• Xavier women's soccer's changed its home venue for its Saturday, Oct. 15 match against Villanova to University of Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium for a noon start.

• Admission to the event will be free and fans are encouraged to park in the Calhoun Street Garage, which is adjacent to Gettler Stadium, which will be available for $5. To access the Calhoun Street Garage, enter from Calhoun Street and not Corry Blvd.

• The Xavier Soccer Complex is temporarily unplayable due to flooding in certain sections of campus and surrounding areas.

• The Musketeers fell 1-0 at Seton Hall on Sunday, despite outshooting the Pirates.
• The two teams were scoreless for the first 75 minutes of the match when SHU took the 1-0 lead after SHU's Marissa Aniolowski had a shot deflect off of a Musketeer defender and go into the goal for the game-winning score.Â
• The Musketeers offense had come into the second half with increased intensity, out-shooting the Pirates 11-3 in the second period for a 13-8 advantage overall.
•  Kenadie Carlson led the Musketeers with four shots, getting the first opportunity of the second half and several more good looks of the foot of Samantha Dewey.Â
•  The best opportunity of the day for the Musketeers came off a look from Carlson from the right corner. The shot clipped the post and rolled in front of the open side of the net near a waiting Courtney Lankford with an opportunity to chip it in to the open corner of the net. Lankford was boxed out by a SHU defender and the Pirates' goalkeeper fell on the ball to erase Xavier's opportunity for what would have been a game-tying goal.
•  In addition to creating opportunities for her teammates, Dewey finished with three shots on the day, including a final opportunity for the Musketeers to score the equalizer, shooting straight-on in the 18-yard box in the 87th minute, a look that was blocked by a Pirate defender.
• Rachel Piccus played the full 90 minutes, collecting four saves on the day. Courtney Kobashigawa and Carly Alfano each played over 80 minutes on the back line as Xavier limited the opportunities for SHU offense to restart in the deep third, with the Pirates earning just one corner kick overall.

• Through 15 games, Samantha Dewey, the leading points scorer from 2015, has posted a team-leading 16 points off a team-highs in goals (6) and assists (4). Dewey's six total goals ranks T-8th in the BIG EAST. Her point total stands at T-7th in the conference.

•  Kenadie Carlson added another point to her total with an assist to Dewey against Providence, bringing her to nine points through 15 games, the second highest total on the team. Carlson scored the lone goal for the Musketeers at IUPUI to bring her season total to three to go with three assists.
•  Tori Doss has posted eight points through 15 games, the third highest total on the squad. Doss has four goals on the season after she scored the game-winner against Ohio.

• Xavier's 18 goals through 15 games have come from eight different Musketeers. Eight Musketeers have also dished out assists.

• Rachel Piccus has played a team-high 951 minutes in goal, starting 12 of Xavier's 15 matches. Piccus has allowed 16 goals against while collecting 0.758 percent of shots against her for a total of 50 saves. Piccus has picked up four wins on the season, including a pair of shutouts.

• Toni Bizzarro has rotated time at goal with Piccus, starting three games, and coming in during the second half in five others. Through 426 minutes of action, Bizzarro has 21 saves for a 0.750 save percentage while allowing seven goals for a 1.48 GAA. In eight appearances, Bizzarro has picked up a pair of wins.
• In the backfield, Courtney Kobashigawa has played over 1200 minutes for the Musketeers through 15 matches. The senior defender is joined on the back line by Carly Alfano who has played nearly 85 minutes per game in 13 appearances. Junior Maddie Tierney has played every minute of the Musketeers last four matches, totaling 367 minutes on the Xavier back line.

• Five Musketeers have earned weekly awards from the BIG EAST Conference. Most recently, Toni Bizzarro and Kenadie Carlson earned honors for the week of September 12.

• Bizzarro was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after Bizzarro making her first collegiate appearance against NKU on Sept. 6, splitting time with Rachel Piccus in frame in all three of the Musketeers' matches that week to total 135 minutes. In those three appearances, she collected seven saves for a .875 save percentage while allowing only one goal on the way to a 2-0 record.

•  Kenadie Carlson earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after she totaled five points through three games to help the Musketeers to a 2-1 record during that week. After the Musketeers fell behind 1-0 at NKU, Carlson scored her first of the season just out of the halftime break to tie the game which the Musketeers won on a last second goal. Carlson collected another three points in the win at Youngstown State, assisting on Samantha Dewey's goal in the 60th minute and scoring the game-winner in the 73rd. This is Carlson's first weekly award of the season.
• Bizzarro and Carlson join three other Musketeers who have earned weekly awards from the BIG EAST this season. In week one, Rachel Piccus earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Maddie Tierney was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Samantha Dewey also earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition for the week of Sept. 5.
