J.P. Macura leads all scorers with 18 points
CINCINNATI – A dominant performance on the boards helped the Musketeers go two-of-two against Northern Iowa on Saturday, as No. 9/8 Xavier topped the Panthers, 64-42, at Cintas Center to move to 6-0 on the season.
Xavier owned a 42-20 advantage on rebounds, grabbing as many off the offensive glass (15) as UNI did on defense, helping Xavier own an 11-2 advantage on second chance points.
Trevon Bluiett led the Musketeers with eight boards. Tyrique Jones finished with six, including five offensive rebounds.
Xavier also dominated on scoring in the paint, outscoring UNI 36-16 down low.
In addition to limiting UNI to just 43 shots to 57 for the Musketeers, Xavier held the Panthers to 32.6 percent shooting from the floor, while hitting on 45.6 percent of their shots.
J.P. Macura led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including shooting 50 percent from outside. It marks the fourth time in six games Macura has led the Musketeers in scoring, hitting double figures in each game this season. Macura also went 3-of-3 at the free throw line, making the junior 25-of-26 on the season.
Edmond Sumner also hit double-figures, scoring 14 to go 6-of-6 on the season scoring in double figures. Sumner also dished out a season-high seven assists.
Tyrique Jones finished with six points on 3-of-4 shooting to match his career high.
Xavier has won 20-straight regular season non-conference games, dating back to a 89-88 double overtime loss at Auburn on Dec. 12, 2014.
Xavier's non-conference home win streak extends to 26, with the last home setback at the hands of a non-conference opponent coming during the 2012-13 season against Wofford.
Going back to the 1982-83 season, UNI's 12 first-half points is the fewest by an XU opponent.
Xavier, which never trailed, jumped out to a 5-0 lead, holding UNI scoreless for nearly three minutes.
The Musketeer pushed the advantage out to as many as 23 in the first half, leading 35-12 at the break. Sumner led the Musketeers with 10 first half points.
Macura had three first half steals, as Xavier outscored UNI 11-0 on points off miscues in the first half.
Xavier out-rebounded UNI 21-10 in the first half, led by five for Bluiett.
Xavier's lead pushed out to as many as 26, 40-14, early in the second half.
UNI would get as close as 15, with just under eight minutes remaining after leading scorer Jeremy Morgan hit back-to-back threes to bring his point total to 14, all scored in the second half.
Xavier held UNI to just two field goals the rest of the way, extending the lead back to as many as 23 before winning by 22, 64-22

Xavier turned seven offensive boards into seven second-chance points to zero for UNI in the second period.
