Women's Soccer Heads to NKU for Tuesday Evening Match

Musketeers and Norse set for 7 PM first kick
CINCINNATI – A change in venue sends the Musketeers across the river for its next scheduled match, as Xavier travels to NKU to face the Norse on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m. A live stream of the match will be available on ESPN3.com.
• NKU comes into the match on a two-game winning streak, most recently getting the 2-0 win at Toledo after Ally Perkins scored off a corner kick midway through the first period. Later in the first half Samantha Duwel scored off a pass from Sami Rutowski to put the Norse up 2-0
• The match at Toledo marked a second-straight shutout for goalkeeper Emily Lohmann who also collected the 1-0 shutout victory for the Norse over Morehead State on Aug. 29 at home.
• The back-to-back shutout wins bring the Norse to a 2-3 record after opening the season with three straight games on the road, falling at Appalachian State, Cincinnati and EKU.
• Four Norse have scored goals on the season. Perkins' goal against Toledo gives her a team-high three points, including a previous assist.
• Xavier's match against Northern Kentucky University, originally scheduled for the XU Soccer Complex has been moved to NKU Soccer Stadium on the campus of NKU in Highland Heights, Ky., due to recent flooding on Xavier's campus.
• NKU will assume the role of home team for the match, which will now be played at 7:00 p.m. instead of the previously scheduled 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for general admission and $3.00 for children ages 6-18 as well as students with a valid ID. Parking is also $5.00. Gates to NKU Soccer Stadium open an hour prior to first kick.
• The game marks the fourth match in the series with NKU, with Xavier leading the all-time series 2-0-1. XU took the first two games of the series, dating back to 2012 with a 1-0 overtime win at NKU and a 1-0 win at home in 2013.
• The two teams last squared off in 2014 in a 1-1 double overtime draw at NKU. Last season's match-up at NKU was cancelled due to inclement weather.
• After a two-tally half for the Musketeers, helping secure the 3-1 win over Dayton last Friday, Samantha Dewey earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
• This is the first appearance on the Weekly Honor Roll for Dewey this season, and second in her career, previously earning the honor on Sept. 7, 2015. Dewey, a unanimous choice to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team last season, was also honored as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week twice in 2015 (8/24/2015 and 10/26/2015).
• Dewey is the third Musketeer to earn a weekly award from the BIG EAST this season. In week one, Rachel Piccus earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Maddie Tierney was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
• On Friday night, Xavier traveled up I-75 to face old Atlantic 10 rival Dayton, taking the 3-1 win over the Flyers to move to 3-1-1 on the season.
• The win, fueled by a pair of second half goals by Samantha Dewey, marks the first time Xavier has topped Dayton in women's soccer since 2000, breaking a streak of 14 straight losses to the Flyers in the first official match between the two programs since Xavier joined the BIG EAST in 2013.
• The match also marks the first win at Dayton since 1998 when Xavier topped the Flyers on penalty kicks in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship game, earning the program's first berth to the NCAA Tournament.
• Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute after Maddie Tierney served a free kick from 23 yards out to the left side of the box. Ellie Eckerle found the corner of the net for her first goal of the season and second of her Xavier career.
• The Musketeers extended the lead to two in the 60th minute when Samantha Dewey got behind a pair of defenders and worked the ball into the 18-yard box. Dewey shot from the middle to the left side for her second goal of the season.
• After Dayton cut the lead down to one, 2-1, in the 63rd minute, Xavier held on to the one goal advantage until the 82nd minute when Dewey struck for her second goal of the game and third of the season. Eckerle fed the ball to Dewey at the top of the box, dropping the ball into the right side of the net for the insurance goal.
• Xavier held the Flyers scoreless for over 63 minutes, before UD's Meghan Blank scored off a pass from the endline. Rachel Piccus finished with six saves to keep the Musketeers ahead and pick up her third win of the season.
• Eckerle and Carly Alfano each played a full 90 minutes on the backline for the Musketeers, helping keep the the Flyer attack under control.
• Xavier's 3-1-1 record is the best record through five games for the Musketeers since the 2013 season where Xavier started the season 5-0-1. Through five games, Samantha Dewey, the lead points scorer from 2015, leads the Musketeers with eight points off a team-high three goals and a pair of assists that match Maddie Tierney and Emily Calvani for team high.
• Tori Doss has a pair of goals and Maddie Tierney has a goal and pair of assists for four points each, sitting at second highest on the team.
• Xavier's nine goals through five games have come from six different Musketeers. Six Musketeers have also dished out assists.
• Rachel Piccus has played all 470 minutes in goal, allowing only four goals against while collecting 87.5 percent of shots against her for a total of 28 saves. Piccus has picked up three wins on the season, including a pair of shutouts.
• In the backfield with Piccus, Carly Alfano is averaging over 92 minutes of action in her three appearances including 102 minutes in the double overtime match at Ball State. Courtney Kobashigawa chips in 85.8 minutes per game through five games as part of a defense that is holding teams to 0.80 goals per game
• The next scheduled match for the Musketeers is against Duquesne on Friday, September 9 at 4:30 p.m., set to be the first game of a double-header with the Xavier men's team. Please stay tuned for potential changes for the match with the Dukes.
• After hosting DU, Xavier will head out on to the road for five-straight road games, closing out the non-conference schedule at Youngstown State, Ohio and IUPUI before jumping into the BIG EAST slate at DePaul and Providence.
