Musketeers match No. 12 Georgetown at 3-0-1 in BIG EAST play to lead conference
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer remained undefeated in BIG EAST play on Thursday night, playing RV Butler (9-1-3; 2-0-2 BIG EAST) to a 0-0 draw through double overtime in Indianapolis. With the draw, Xavier (7-4-3; 3-0-1 BIG EAST) continues its best start to conference play since joining the BIG EAST in 2013, matching No. 12 Georgetown on top of the conference standings four games into the nine-game schedule.
Against a Butler team that has given up only two goals in 13 matches, Xavier created seven looks, including a dangerous chance for Emily Burton in the 108th minute, but were unable to break through for the tally. The Bulldogs created just one more shot, but had six looks on-frame, each collected by Toni Bizzarro who posted a third-straight shut-out to earn the result.Â

- The result marks a new program-best for results in BIG EAST play, surpassing the previous-best BIG EAST record from 2015, when the Musketeers went 3-6-0 in conference play.
- The result against Butler is the first for the Musketeers since joining the BIG EAST, moving the overall record to 7-11-3 against the Bulldogs.
- The road result moves the Musketeers to 1-2-1 away from home on the season.
- Toni Bizzarro collected six saves to keep the Bulldogs scoreless, marking her third-straight clean sheet and fourth of the season. Bizzarro's record moves to 7-4-2 on the season.
- Maddie Tierney played the full 110 on the Xavier backline. Andie Kennard and Courtney Lankford also played the full time.
- Xavier was out-shot 8-7 overall and 6-2 in looks on frame, but forced two corner kicks to zero for Butler.
- Kennard and Sydney Schembri each had a pair of looks on-frame to lead the Musketeers.
- The best chance of the day for the Musketeers came in the eighth minute of the second overtime, when Sydney Schembri served the ball into the box from the left side. From just outside the six-yard-box, Courtney Lankford tapped the ball to Emily Burton. From the left side of the six-yard-box, Burton shot for the golden goal, but the Butler goal keeper collected the save.
