Musketeers fall on 108th minute golden goal to finish runner-up for second time in program history

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Xavier men's soccer fell on a 108th minute golden goal, finishing runner-up in the BIG EAST Championships after a 2-1 loss to top-seeded Georgetown on Sunday at Shaw Field.

XU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute on a penalty kick score by Matt Vasquenza, but the Hoyas scored two unanswered to win their second title in three years.

• XU dropped to 4-5 all-time in the BIG EAST Championships and 8-6-3 in conference tournaments under head coach Andy Fleming.
• The Musketeers finished runner-up for the second time in program history. XU last reached the final in 2014, falling 2-1 against Providence before rebounding to reach the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
• Since 2013, the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Championships has reached the tournament's final round four times in five tries.
• Matt Vasquenza scored his ninth goal of the season, giving him a career-high 22 points for the season.
• Vasquenza's goal gave him 69 points for his career, moving him into a tie for seventh in program history with Jim Sandmann (1972-75).
• The tally was the 26th of his career, moving Vasquenza into a tie for sixth in program history alongside Matt Walker (2010-13) and Maurice Schilten (1994-95).
