Carly Alfano Named First Team All-Ohio by Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association

Honor added to lengthy list of accolades to close out senior defender's Xavier career
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer's Carly Alfano added another accolade to her lengthy résúme this week, earning first team All-Ohio honors from the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OSCA). The senior defender's honor is added to numerous other awards she has collected after her final season at Xavier, including All-BIG EAST Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Third Team nominations, as well as CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honors for here work in the classroom.
Alfano led the 2017 Musketeers in minutes played with over 1,800 for the season, anchoring the Xavier defense as middle back. The Xavier backline held all-nine BIG EAST opponents to one goal or fewer during the conference regular season, helping earn the program's first BIG EAST Championship bid since joining the conference and the first post-season appearances since 2003.
All told, Xavier's defense forced four shutouts on the season. Alfano's efforts earned the Belle River, Ontario, Canada native a spot on the BIG EAST All-Conference Second Team.
Prior to her senior season, Alfano established herself as an anchor on the Xavier backline, starting in 17 games as a junior to tally over 1,400 minutes. Alfano also recorded an assist in 2016.
As a sophomore, Alfano totaled 1,471 minutes in 18 appearances, including 17 starts. During the 2015 season, she played all but eight minutes in BIG EAST action. As a freshman, she played nearly 900 minutes, making eight starts in 17 appearances, and took seven shots on goal.
The 2017 Musketeers posted the first winning conference season since 2005, going 4-3-2 in BIG EAST play to finish fifth in the 10-team conference and earn the first postseason bid since joining the BIG EAST.
