Rylan Bannon homered for a second straight game, driving in four as XU evened the series on Saturday

CARY, N.C. - Garrett Schilling went six strong innings and Rylan Bannon drove in four as Xavier baseball took down Penn State 10-4 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday.

With the win, XU evens the weekend series and improves to 3-3 on the young season. Penn State drops to 1-4 after taking a 7-5 win in the Friday night matchup.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Rylan Bannon went yard for a second straight game, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBI and tying a career-high with three runs scored.
• Bannon is now hitting .500 (4-for-8) on the weekend with 2 homers, six RBI and four runs scored.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, R, 2 RBI), Nate Soria (1-for-5), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-4, 2 R) and Matt Fallon (1-for-5) also collected hits for Xavier.
• Chris Givin scored a career-high three times despite not getting a hit, working his way on base via two walks and an error.
• Bannon and Givin each walked twice and combined to score six runs at the top two spots in the batting order.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Garrett Schilling (1-0) picked up the win in his second career start, going six strong innings. The junior righty scattered three hits and struck out four while allowing just one unearned run.
• Through two starts, Schilling's season numbers are impressive: 0.69 ERA, 13 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
• Sam Czabala finished out the win, tossing a career-high three innings while striking out one and allowing three runs for his first career save.

HOW XU SCORED

FIRST INNING: Rylan Bannon worked a one out walk, coming around to score on a double to left center by Joe Gellenbeck.
FIFTH INNING: Will LaRue reached on an error and swiped second to start the frame, going to third on a fly out by Matt Fallon. Chris Givin and Rylan Bannon then worked back-to-back walks to load the bases before Joe Gellenbeck earned a free pass to push a run across. Conor Grammes then lined a single up the middle, bringing Bannon and Givin home. Gellenbeck then scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-0 lead.
SIXTH INNING: Ethan Schmidt began the inning with a walk, stealing second and going to third on a ground out by Will LaRue. After a Chris Givin walk, Rylan Bannon laced a two-run triple to left center to give XU a 7-1 lead.
SEVENTH INNING: A two out rally began with Ethan Schmidt reaching on a three-base error by the right fielder and coming home on a single to center by Will LaRue.
EIGHTH INNING: Chris Givin reached on a hit by pitch to begin the inning and Rylan Bannon followed with a two-run bomb to center field to make it 10-2.
