Musketeers go for series win tomorrow at 11 AM

CARY, N.C. - Rylan Bannon collected four hits in five at bats, driving in a pair of runs to help Xavier top Penn State, 7-5, in the second game of a double-header at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday.

Xavier goes for the series win against the Nittany Lions tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Rylan Bannon collected a run on four hits, driving in two to lead the Musketeers on offense.
• Mitch Gallagher (1 of 1) and Joe Gellenbeck (1 of 4) each knocked in a pair of RBIs.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, R, 2 RBI), Nate Soria (1-for-5), Ethan Schmidt (1-for-4, 2 R) and Matt Fallon (1-for-5) also collected hits for Xavier.
• Chris Givin (1 of 2) scored a pair of runs in two at-bats.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Trent Astle went fo 2.1 inning, giving up five runs on eight hits with one walk.
• Matt Kent came in for scoreless 3.2 innings, only walking one and striking out a pair.
• Taylor Williams pitched a pair of scoreless innings, striking out five of seven batters faced.
• Connor Grammes picked up his first save, striking out one and walking one without allowing a hit.

HOW XU SCORED

FOURTH INNING: Matt Fallon started a two-out rally with a base on a hit-by-pitch. A walk for Chris Givin pushed Fallon into scoring position to put the Musketeers on the board on a Rylan Banonn single. Gellenbeck tripled, brining Bannon and Givin in. A Conor Grammes' single brought in Gellenbeck to pull the Musketeers within one, 5-4.
FIFTH INNING: A lead-off double for Given followed by a double for Bannon tied the game 5-5.
SIXTH INNING: Nate Monastra doubled to lead off the inning and Will LaRue joined him on the bases after a one-out walk. A wild pitch pushed both into scoring position for Gallagher who singled to left field to put the Musketeers up 7-2.
