Defending BIG EAST Women's Tennis Champions Open Tournament Play on Friday

Musketeers face Marquette in quarterfinal action
CAYCE, S.C. – The Xavier University women's tennis team begins defense of its BIG EAST Championship this week at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C. No. 4 seed Xavier and No. 5 seed Marquette, who both earned byes in Thursday's first round, will meet in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
Xavier is the defending champion of the BIG EAST Conference Women's Tennis Championship presented by Jeep. Senior Sydney Liggins, the 2016 BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player and 2016 BIG EAST Player of the Year, leads the Musketeers at No. 1 singles and part of the No. 2 doubles team. Fellow senior Cristina Di Lorenzo, a 2016 All-BIG EAST Conference Team member, is at No. 2 singles and part of the No. 1 doubles team.
Xavier finished 4-1 in BIG EAST regular season play, including a 5-2 win over Marquette on March 18 at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club in Cincinnati. MU finished 3-3 in league play.
The winner of the Xavier/Marquette match plays at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
