09.18.17 | Men's Tennis
Kalamazoo, Mich. - Xavier travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. on Saturday, Sept. 23-24 for the Western Michigan Invitational at the Sorensen Courts/West Hills Athletic Club.
Xavier will compete against players from various schools, including Illinois State, Valparaiso, Butler, Western Michigan and University of Chicago.
The Musketeers are coming off a successful weekend at the ATP Tournament in Mason, Ohio. Xavier picked up seven singles wins and three wins in doubles. Freshmen Brett Winters and Jan Vidal won the doubles flight two bracket.
Head coach Doug Matthews shared his thought on the season opener and aspirations for this weekend.
"Overall, I thought we played well for our first tournament," said Matthews. "We struggled in close matches which we hope to improve on this weekend."
"Brett Winters and Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal played well in doubles, winning their flight. It's good to see they are both coming into college with a good understanding of doubles," Matthews added.Â
