Men's Tennis Travels to Knoxville for ITA Ohio Valley Regional

CINCINNATI - The Xavier University men's tennis team will return to action on Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn. at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament. Action will take place Thursday, Oct. 11 through Monday, Oct. 15, and venues include the Goodfriend Tennis Center (Thursday-Monday), Knoxville Racquet Club (Thursday-Saturday) and Barksdale Tennis Stadium (consolation rounds, Friday-Monday).

This tournament, representing one of the twelve regions in which the Intercollegiate Tennis Association hosts tournaments, will host 21 Division I men's tennis programs from the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. Notable programs joining Xavier this weekend include Ball State, Butler, Dayton, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Northern Kentucky and Wright State, among others. Tournament play will consist of a 128-player singles draw, 64-team doubles draw, and a first-round loser singles consolation draw.

The Musketeers struggled in singles and doubles play at the tournament last year and will look to improve off experience gained through competing with some of the best collegiate tennis players in the country. Xavier will seek to capitalize on momentum gained at the Dayton Hidden Duals a few weeks ago where the Musketeers recorded two team wins and combined for 18 match wins. The men picked up 13 singles wins and five doubles victories against Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Wright State, three teams who will also compete this weekend in Knoxville.

Following the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, Xavier will close out the Fall season in Louisville, Kentucky at the Louisville Invitational on Oct. 19-21.
