Men's Soccer Falls on Overtime Golden Goal at Western Michigan

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer suffered an overtime own goal in the 97th minute, losing 2-1 to Western Michigan on Tuesday at WMU Soccer Complex.
Xavier dropped to 4-5-5, 2-2-1 BIG EAST with four matches to play, beginning the BIG EAST stretch run on Saturday at Marquette.
Western Michigan improved to 8-5-2 with the win.

24' | WMU 1-0 | Mike Melaragni chipped a shot in from the near post over the head of XU's Colin Hanley to open the scoring. Paul Liagre was credited with an assist, playing the ball into the box from the near corner.
56' | Tied 1-1 | Western Michigan was called for a hand ball in the box, rewarding Xavier with a penalty kick. Samson Sergi stepped up and sent his shot into the net on a ricochet off the post.
97' | WMU 2-1 | A long, high-arcing free kick found its way deep into the box where it glanced off Tomek Pauer for an own goal.
• After an even first half, Xavier outshot WMU 13-5 after the break. XU held a 10-2 advantage in the second half as the Broncos repelled numerous chances.

• Simen Hestnes, Pauer and Sergi led the Musketeers with two shots apiece.
• XU drops to 1-5-1 in its last seven matches after a seven-match unbeaten streak to start the season.
• XU is now 1-4-2 on the road this fall.
• Xavier is now on a three-match losing streak for the first time since the end of the 2016 season. It's only the third time XU has lost three in a row since Andy Fleming arrived as head coach in 2010.
