WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following the conclusion of the BIG EAST Championship match at Georgetown University, a pair from the semifinalist Xavier Musketeers, Samantha Dewey and Andie Kennard, were named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team.
No. 1 seed Georgetown topped No. 2 seed Butler, 1-0, in Washington D.C. on Sunday afternoon, winning the Hoyas' third-straight BIG EAST Championship.
Dewey and Kennard each tallied in Xavier's BIG EAST Championship run which saw Xavier, as the No. 4 seed, host a BIG EAST postseason match for the first time in program history. Xavier also advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since joining the conference.
Samantha Dewey scored her ninth of the season in the first round match against DePaul at the XU Soccer Complex on Sunday, Oct. 28. The goal, which came in the 63rd minute of that match, when Allison Klimkowski served the ball toward the box from around midfield. Grace Brauer, just outside the penalty box, brought the ball down and passed to Dewey, who worked the ball past several defenders, shooting to the left corner to give Xavier the 1-0 lead.
DePaul would respond later in regulation to force overtime. After playing to a draw through double overtime, Xavier advanced on PKs, 4-2, the first time advancing in the conference tournament since 2003. Dewey also picked up an assist on Kennard's goal in the Semifinal match against Georgetown.

Andie Kennard tallied in Xavier's first ever BIG EAST Semifinal match, where Xavier faced the task of the No.4 ranked, and top overall seed in the BIG EAST Championship, Georgetown Hoyas. A penalty kick in the first half and quick pair of goals in the second half put Xavier behind 3-0, but the Musketeers continued to battle, with Kennard scoring only the seventh goal the unbeaten Hoyas had allowed all season, and only the third to a BIG EAST squad.
In the 85th minute, Samantha Dewey served the ball into the box on a free kick. The Hoya keeper lost the ball in the scrum and Kennard shot past her for the tally, her second of the season and the fourth of her Xavier career.
Dewey and Kennard are the first Musketeers to be named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
