Baseball Falls Victim to Ninth Inning Rally at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Xavier baseball got seven strong innings from Matt Kent and led 3-1 going into the ninth inning, but Indiana State rallied for three in the ninth inning to steal a win on Friday at Bob Warn Field.
Xavier dropped to 7-15 with the loss, while Indiana State improved to 14-5.

• Xavier plays game three of the weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Terre Haute, Ind.

• Eight different players record a hit for XU, which posted 10 hits on the day.
• Allbry Major (2-for-4, RBI) and Nate Soria (2-for-4) led the way with multi-hit games for XU.
• Mitch Gallagher (1-for-2, R, BB) came up with a big one out double in the ninth inning, scoring to put the Musketeers up 3-1.
• Chris Givin (1-for-4), Ryan Altenberger (1-for-4), Conor Grammes (1-for-4, R), Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, RBI) and Blaine Griffiths (1-for-4) also contributed hits.
• Conor Grammes now has a team-high seven game hitting streak, while Chris Givin extend his hitting streak to five games.

Batting next, Joe Gellenbeck doubled to right center to bring Altenberger around and tie the game at 1-1. Allbry Major then delivered an infield hit to bring Grammes around and give XU the lead, 2-1.
