
Women's Tennis Falls in Tight Battle against Cincinnati

Lauren Ghidotti and Rachael Reichenbach each win a pair
CINCINNATI -Â Lauren Ghidotti and Rachael Reichenbach each picked up a pair of wins as Xavier dropped a tightly contest match, 4-3, to crosstown rival Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon at Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati. The loss is Xavier's first in four matches.

Xavier opened up by taking the doubles point, with Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson taking the 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot and Reichenbach and Ahmeir Kyle winning 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Zoe Manion played to a 4-4 draw in the No. 3 doubles spot before the point was won secured by Xavier.

In singles action, Ghidotti put the Musketeers up 2-0 by taking a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot over Alexia Coutino. The win is the fourth consecutive match win and 10th of the season for the senior.

Cincinnati came back with a pair of singles wins. In the No. 5 slot, UC's Emma Miceli topped Bagerbaseh, 6-3, 6-1, for the Bearcats' first point.

UC tied it up 2-2 with a win in the No. 1 spot where Kyle took the first set, 7-5, but fell in three, 5-7, 6-1, 4-6.

Xavier retook the lead, 3-2, with Reichenbach's three-set win in the No. 4 spot, topping Antonella Bramato, 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.

UC tied the match again, 3-3, after taking the point in the No. 3 spot. After falling 6-3 in the first set Sophia Abelson came back to win the second set, 7-5, before falling 6-2 in the third set.

In the deciding point in the No. 6 spot, Lauren Fitz-Randolph fell in the first set 6-1 before coming back and taking the second 7-6. In the third set, Fitz Randolph fell behind 5-2 before coming back to within one, 5-4. UC's Anna Philp took the final point of the match, 6-4.

Xavier returns to action on April 7 when the Musketeers travel to Milwaukee for a pair of BIG EAST matches. Xavier opens the weekend against Creighton on Saturday, April 7 at 2:30 p.m. and continues on Sunday, April 8 against Marquette at 2:30 p.m.
