Cincinnati, OH – The Xavier women's tennis team travels to Milwaukee this weekend to face off against the Creighton Blue Jays on Saturday, April 7 and the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday, April 8. Both matches are set to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Musketeers are 10-6 on the season, with a 3-0 record in BIG EAST play.
Xavier is led by senior Lauren Ghidotti and junior Sophia Abelson. The duo plays No. 2 and No. 3 singles for the Musketeers, while also being the No. 1 doubles team. Both players are the only Musketeers to post records with at least 10 wins in singles and doubles.
Freshman Ahmeir Kyle has been the consistent No. 1 singles player for the Musketeers this season, compiling an 8-7 record. In doubles, Kyle has paired with sophomore Rachael Reichenbach for most of the season in the No. 2 position. Reichenbach has been vital in the Musketeers singles success at No. 4 singles. She is tied for most wins on the team (11) with Sophia Abelson and comes into the weekend riding a four-match winning streak.
Graduate transfer Elizabeth Bagerbaseh has been a nice addition to the depth of the Musketeers singles lineup. She is tied for second on the team in wins (10) and comes into the weekend a winner in three of her last four singles matches, but she will also play No. 3 doubles with junior Zoe Manion. Rounding out the singles lineup is sophomore Lauren Fitz-Randolph. Playing No. 6 singles, primarily, the sophomore has tallied a nice 2nd season with an 8-7 record.
Head Coach Doug Matthews talked the importance of these two matches, "This is a big weekend for us. We need to come out with energy in doubles from the first ball. Creighton and Marquette are both good teams, so we will definitely learn more about ourselves after these matches".
All six Musketeers post winning singles record, along with four of the players tallying double-digit singles wins. Singles play has been stellar for the Musketeers this season, and the doubles teams are gaining momentum with victories in three of the last four matches.
