Women's Tennis Drops First Match of Two-Day Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – Women's tennis fell to James Madison on Wednesday night, 5-1. The match only consisted of singles matches. Doubles play could not take place due to weather. The Musketeer's only win came from Ahmeir Kyle at No. 1 singles.
The freshman won the first set 6-2, just before dropping the second set 2-6. Kyle came from behind to clinch the third set victory 6-2, earning a point for Xavier.
Sophia Abelson was at No. 2 singles where she claimed the first set 7-5. Abelson lost the second set 4-6, forcing a third set. The junior dropped set three 2-6.
Lauren Ghidotti was at the No. 3 spot for Xavier where she dropped another three-set match. She lost in the first set 4-6 but bounced back to earn a 6-1 victory. This forced a third set that the senior lost 1-6.
Elizabeth Bagerbaseh also competed in a close three-set match. Bagerbaseh started off strong earning a 7-5 victory in the first set before dropping the final two sets 1-6, 1-6.

The Musketeers return to the court for action Thursday, March 8 against South Dakota. The match will take place in Orlando, Fla. Head coach Doug Matthews talks about what the Musketeers need to do to bounce back after today's loss, "I am looking forward to seeing how we respond to today's loss. I want to see us be physically and mentally tougher in three setters tomorrow. We are going to play a lot of tough matches down the stretch and need to be better in those situations tomorrow than we were today."
