
Women's Tennis Falls at Middle Tennessee to Close Out Non-Conference

Musketeers close regular season with a pair of BIG EAST matches next weekend
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Xavier women's tennis closed out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday, falling at Middle Tennessee, 4-1, at the Adams Tennis Complex. The Musketeers moved to 11-9 overall.
Xavier opened up with a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point, with Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson winning 6-3 on court one, and Ahmeri Kyle and Rachael Reichenbach winning 6-4 on No. 2 to secure the point.
In singles competition, all six matches went to three sets. MTSU tied the match 1-1 by picking up the point on No. 6. After falling in the first set, Kaitlyn Ruether battled back in the second, 6-4, to force a third, falling 6-2.
Middle Tennessee took the 2-1 lead, winning on the No. 1 court. Ahmeir Kyle took the first set, 7-5, but fell, 6-4, in the second. MTSUÂ won the third 6-1.
Sophia Abelson took the first set on court three, 6-1, but fell 6-4 in the second. MTSUÂ won 6-4 in the third to go ahead 3-1.
The deciding point came in No. 2 singles. After Lauren Ghidotti took the first set, 6-3, she fell in a tightly contested second set, 7-6, after multiple tie-breakers. In the third set, she fell 6-0 to secure the win for Middle Tennessee.
The matches on No. 4 and No. 5 were both in the third set. On No. 4, Rachael Reichenbach fell 7-6 in the first after multiple tie-breakers, then forced a third after winning 6-4 in the second. She was behind 3-2 in the third when the match was decided.
On No. 5, Elizabeth Bagerbaseh won the first set 6-4, and fell 7-5 in the second. Bagerbaseh was behind 5-4 in the third when the match was called.
Xavier closes out the regular season next weekend with a pair of BIG EAST matches. The Musketeers host Seton Hall on Friday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m. before traveling to Chicago to face DePaul on Sunday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Xavier stands at 4-1 in BIG EAST play.
