01.10.19 | Men's Basketball
Musketeers are looking for a second straight BIG EAST win.
CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University Musketeers, 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, host the Butler University Bulldogs, 10-6 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, on Sunday at noon at Cintas Center.
Â
Xavier leads the series with Butler 40-20, including a sweep of both games last season. Xavier has won three straight and 19 of the last 25 meetings, including 12 of the last 16. XU holds a 9-3 advantage since the two teams became BIG EAST rivals.
Â
Xavier and Butler are long-time rivals. XU and BU are competing as members of the BIG EAST Conference for the sixth straight year. Xavier and Butler competed in the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2012-13 season and they were long-time rivals in the former Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now Horizon League) for 16 seasons before Xavier began play in the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 1995-96 season.
Â
Xavier is coming off an 81-75 come-from-behind win over Georgetown on Wednesday at Cintas Center. Xavier, playing without injured starting point guard Quentin Goodin, fell behind by 17 points, 39-22, with under four minutes left in the first half but battled back for the win. Xavier placed four players in double figures in scoring, including double-double performances from junior Tyrique Jones and graduate transfer Zach Hankins. Jones finished with a career-high tying 19 points with 10 rebounds, while Hankins contributed a Xavier career-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks. The Musketeers turned the ball over only four times, a total that is just one more than the school record that was tied earlier this season vs. Miami (Ohio).
