Musketeers Drop 2-1 Match at Butler to End 2019 Season

Senior Samson Sergi scored his 10th goal of the year on Wednesday afternoon
INDIANAPOLIS -  The 2019 Xavier men's soccer season came to a close on Wednesday as the Musketeers dropped a 2-1 match at Butler. Xavier finished the season with an 8-8-1 (3-6 BIG EAST) record.
 
	
		
8' | BU | Brandon Guhl gave the Bulldogs an early lead, scoring from five yards out on the left. Alex Lehtinen was credited with an assist on the play.
32' | XU | Samson Sergi scored from just outside the net, beating a Bulldog defender to find the back of the net. Jacob Bernsen played the ball to Sergi from the right side of the midfield to record his second assist of the year.
51' | BU | Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., scored the game winner just six minutes into the second half. Alex Lehtinen and Brandon Guhl were credited with assists on the play.
 
	
		
• Xavier's six-year streak of advancing to the BIG EAST Tournament was snapped on Wednesday. The Musketeers had previously qualified for every conference tournament since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
• Senior Samson Sergi finished the year with a team-leading 10 goals. The forward finished his career with 29 goals, ranking tied for fourth in program history.
• Redshirt-junior Matthew Rosenberg (8-8-1) made two saves in 90 minutes of action between the pipes.
• Xavier had three more shots (12-9) than Butler. The Bulldogs took one more corner kick (5-4). Both teams committed 13 fouls.
• Xavier only allowed two, first-half goals this season: at Butler (Nov. 6) and at No. 13 Georgetown (Oct. 19).
