Matthew Graft and Michael Lee pick up singles wins

LOUISVLLE - Xavier men's tennis picked up a pair of singles wins on the No. 44 Louisville Cardinals, but fell, 5-2, on Thursday evening. The Musketeers return home to host Wright State and NKU at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Facility on Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24.

THE MATCH

Louisville took the doubles point after taking the No. 1 spot, 6-2, over Jack Dykema and Brett Winters, and the No. 2 spot, 6-3, over Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre. Michael Lee and Jan Vrba were in a 3-3 draw in the No. 3 spot when the point was decided.

Louisville went ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 1 singles spot over Brett Winters. The Musketeer got a point back, making the score 2-1, with a win for Michael Lee in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-3.

UofL re-extended its lead to two, with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot over Jack Dykema. A 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win for the Cardinals over Connor LaFavre in the No. 4 spot pushed the Xavier deficit to three, 3-1. In the No. 5 spot, Jan Vrba came back to force a third set, but fell, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to give Louisville its fourth point to secure the match.

Matthew Graft, playing in the No. 3 spot, closed out the match with a win for the Musketeers, winning 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 to set the final score at 5-2.
