Musketeers head to Cleveland State to face Buffalo and CSU next weekend

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis picked up a second-straight win on the weekend, topping NKU, 5-2, at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers return to action at Cleveland State next weekend, playing Buffalo on Saturday, then facing the Vikings on Sunday.

"It feels good to get a couple of wins this weekend," said Doug Matthews "We have played well in a lot of our matches this year, but have struggled to close them out. It is great for our confidence to close a couple matches out against local rivals. We need to build on this for next weekend."

THE MATCH

In doubles, the Musketeers took the first win in the No. 3 spot, with Jan Vrba and Michael Lee taking the win, 6-1. Jack Dykema and Brett Winters took the No. 1 double spot, 6-4, to secure the point for the Musketers. Matthew Graft and Connor LaFavre were ahead, 5-4, when the point was decided.

Xavier went ahead 2-0 with a win in the No. 3 singles spot in two sets for Matthew Graft, 6-1, 6-2. The lead went to 3-0 for the Musketeers with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles spot for Jan Vrba.

In the No. 1 spot, Brett Winters took the win, 6-3, 6-4, to put Xavier ahead 4-0 and secure the win.

Xavier picked up its final point in the No. 6 spot, with Michael Lee winning 6-4, 6-1.

NKU picked up a pair of points in singles play, taking the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 7-5 over Connor LaFavre, and the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 7-6, over Jack Dykema.
