Men's Tennis Travels to Georgetown

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's tennis continues their road trip in their fourth away match of the season on Sunday, February 10, when the Musketeers face Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The match with the Hoyas is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.

MATCH NOTES: GEORGETOWN |
- Georgetown got the better end of a close match against Xavier last season on Feb. 23, posting a 4-3 victory over the Musketeers.
- Georgetown went 10-6 overall last season, going undefeated in BIG EAST Conference play.
- The Hoyas are 1-3 in the 2019 season so far.
- Georgetown suffered losses to VCU, Marquette and DePaul early this season.
- In their last outing, the Hoyas defeated George Washington, 4-3, in their first home match of the season.
- Georgetown is coached by Courtney Dolehide.

LAST TIME OUT: VILLANOVA |
- In their last outing, the Musketeers fell, 4-3, to Villanova in their Big East opener.
- In doubles, Connor LaFavre and Matthew Graft took a 6-2 victory in the No.2 spot. Jack Dykema and Brett Winters fell, 7-6, after tiebreakers in the No. 1 spot. Villanova claimed the doubles point after Jan Vrba and Michael Lee fell, 7-5, in the No. 3 spot.
- The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot over Jack Dykema.
- Brett Winters brought Xavier within 1 after a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot. Villanova then used a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 4 over Connor LaFavre to go back ahead 3-1.
- Consecutive wins pulled Xavier and Villanova into a 3-3 tie. Matthew Graft won the No. 3 spot 6-2, 7-5, and teammate Michael Lee won the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
- The deciding point was in the No. 5 spot when Jan Vrba fell 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-7 (7).

- Xavier's roster is deep with upper-classmen, with three seniors and two juniors. Returning seniors include Jack Dykema, Connor LaFavre, and Trent Smith. Juniors Matthew Graft and Michael Lee also return.
- Sophomores Brett Winters and Jan Vrba return for the Musketeers.
- Xavier also added freshmen Dominic Macaluso and Oliver Weaver.
- Xavier is 1-4 so far this season.

FALL HIGHLIGHTS |
- Xavier opened the fall invitational tournament at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Brett Winters posted a strong performance, sweeping the No. 1 flight. Overall, Xavier went 12-9 in singles play and won six doubles matches.
- At the Dayton Hidden Duals, the Musketeers came away with team wins over two of the three teams, picking up dominant wins over NKU, 7-1 and Wright State, 6-1, while falling 7-2 to the Flyers.
- Four Musketeers competed in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals at Tennessee, with Jack Dykema and Brett Winters advancing to the round of 32 in the 128-person main draw. Connor LaFavre and Matthew Graft also competed in the main draw in both singles and doubles. In doubles, the pair took Vanderbilt's Ross and Srabert to five tiebreakers before falling narrowly.
- Xavier closed the fall at the Louisville Invite, where the Musketeers collected 23 wins and had a competitor advance to the consolation final in all four singles flights.
