
Baseball Rallies Late in 11-6 Loss at No. 23 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Xavier baseball rallied for three runs in the ninth inning, but No. 23 Arizona State was able to hold on for a weekend sweep as the Musketeers fell 11-6 in the series finale on Sunday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
XU fell to 5-8 overall with a third straight loss, while ASU remained undefeated at 15-0.
Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, playing a single game against Arizona at 8 p.m. ET in Tucson, Ariz. before embarking on a four-game series with Grand Canyon on Wednesday, March 13 in Phoenix.

• Ryan Altenberger had another productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a pair of doubles. Altenberger now has a six-game hitting streak overall and finished the series 5-for-10 with a homer and four doubles.
• Allbry Major also stood out at the dish, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. The sophomore homered, doubled and walked in the series finale.
• Chris Givin (1-for-3, R), Ryan Fournier (1-for-1), Conor Grammes (1-for-4, RBI), Matt Warkentin (1-for-4) and Jack Housinger (1-for-4, RBI) also contributed hits for XU.
• Xavier left 10 aboard in the game, collecting nine hits overall.

NINTH INNING | Ryan Fournier singled to center off the bench, but was retired on a fielder's choice play that allowed Luke Franzoni to reach. With two outs, Nathan Berg walked to put two on. Allbry Major then delivered again, doubling to left center to bring both runners home. Jack Housinger followed with a run-scoring single through the right side to make it 11-6. Â
