Baseball Falls in Extra Innings at No. 13 Texas

Damien Richard pitches career-long seven innings in first start of season
AUSTIN, Texas - After forcing extra innings, Xavier baseball took the lead twice in extra frames at Texas, but each time the No. 13 Longhorns responded, taking the walk-off 6-5 win in the 12th inning in Austin, Texas on Friday evening.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring on the only two hits allowed by starter Damien Richard in his seven-inning start. Xavier responded in the eighth to tie the game at two and send the game to extra innings. Xavier took a one run lead in the bottom of the 10th, but UT responded to extend the game. The Musketeers scored a pair in the 12th, but a three run inning for the Longhorns gave UT the 6-5 win.
The Musketeers and Longhorns return to the field tomorrow at 6:30 PM ET for the second of three games.

SEVENTH INNING | Chris Givin led off the inning with a walk. A Jack Housinger single and Allbry Major walk loaded the bases with one out. After UT switched pitchers, Ryan Altenberger was hit by a pitch to bring in Givin, cutting the Texas lead to one, 2-1. With the bases still loaded, Jake Shepski hit a sac fly to left field to send Housinger home to tie the game, 2-2.
TENTH INNING | With one out, Major walked, then stole second base. A wild pitch sent Major to third and another wild pitch brought Major home to put Xavier ahead, 3-2.
TWELFTH INNING | Jack Housinger and Conor Grammes led off the inning with walks. A sac bunt by Major put both Housinger and Grammes in scoring position. Ryan Altenberger reached on a fielder's choice, with Housinger thrown out at home. Jake Shepski singled to bring in two runs, putting Xavier ahead, 5-3.

- Lane Flamm came in in the eighth inning, pitching four innings allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and just one walk.
- Trevor Olson came in in the 12th inning, facing the final batter and allowing one hit.
