Baseball Falls on Walk-off at No. 13 Texas

Natale Monastra had a season-high three hits at the plate
AUSTIN, Texas - Xavier baseball took a ninth-inning lead but a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth gave No. 13 Texas a walk-off win, 6-5, in the series finale on Sunday.
Texas took a three run lead in the first. Xavier cut the advantage down to one with runs in the third and the sixth. Texas added a run to its lead in the seventh, but a pair of Xavier runs in the eighth sent the game to the ninth tied, 4-4. Xavier scored in the top of the inning to take its first lead of the day, but a pair of runs for the Longhorns in the bottom of the inning gave UT the series sweep.
Xavier returns to the field on Wednesday, April 3 at Eastern Kentucky. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
THIRD INNING | Kody Darcy got on base to lead off the inning with a hit-by-pitch, then moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Chris Givin used a ground-out to move Darcy to third and a Ryan Altenberger ground out brought him home to cut the Texas lead to two, 3-2.
SIXTH INNING | Jake Shepski reached on an error to lead off the inning, and he moved to third on a Natale Monastra double. With one out, Conor Grammes grounded out to bring Shepski home and cut the UT lead to one, 3-2.
EIGHTH INNING | Matt Warkentin led off the inning with a walk, then took second on a wild pitch. Shepski walked to put runners on first and second, and both runners advanced on a Monastra sac bunt. Jack Housinger hit a sac fly to center field to score Warkentin, making the score 4-3. After Conor Grammes was intentionally walked, Luke Stephenson, pinch hitting for Darcy, singled through the right side to breing Shepski home, tying the game, 4-4.
NINTH INNING | Altenberger led off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a throwing error. Allbry Major sent him to third with a ground-out and Shepski singled to bring Altenberger home, with Xavier leading 5-4.
