Musketeers finish undefeated in conference play

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier women's tennis closed out the regular season with another BIG EAST Conference victory, defeating Butler, 7-0, on Friday afternoon. The Musketeers ended the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record in conference play and will enter the BIG EAST Championship next week with a 20-2 overall record. The Musketeers have now won a school record 18 consecutive matches.

""I'm really proud of our team ending the regular season with an undefeated record in BIG EAST play," said senior Zoe Manion. "This gives us the confidence we need going into BIG EAST next week. I'm excited to see what our team can do and hopefully we bring home some hardware"

THE MATCH

Xavier claimed the first point in doubles play after Zoe Manion and Natalie Moyer grabbed a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 spot. Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether followed the effort with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot, securing the point for the Musketeers. In the No. 1 spot, Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas also recorded a 6-2 win.

In singles play, the Musketeers opened up with a 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot by the efforts of Emily Thomas. Teammate Ahmeir Kyle followed up the effort with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot, giving Xavier a 3-0 lead.

Sophia Abelson extended Xavier's lead to 4-0 after a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nina Bertino in the No. 2 spot. Hunter Roper continued Xavier's success with another two-set win. Roper defeated Butler 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot.

Xavier finished the match with two more victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots from the efforts of Kaitlin Ruether and Anna Letto. Ruether took the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, and Letto finished the match off with a 6-3, 6-3 win, giving Xavier a 7-0 win.
