Women's Tennis Faces Georgetown in Second Round of BIG EAST Championships

CINCINNATI – Xavier women's tennis is back in action on Friday, April 19 when the Musketeers face Georgetown in the second round of the BIG EAST Conference Tennis Championships. First seeded Xavier will look to extend their school record 18-match win streak at 12:30 p.m. in Cayce, South Carolina. The winner of the matchup will move on to the semi-finals at 12:30 p.m. on Satruday, April 20.

- Georgetown is 4-15 so far this season,
- The Hoyas defeated Butler in their first BIG EAST Championship matchup on April 18, 4-0.
- The Hoyas are led by three seniors: Risa Nakagawa, Cecilia Lynham and Sydney Goodson.
- Georgetown is coached by Courtney Dolehide.
- Xavier defeated Georgetown, 4-0, on February 10.

- Xavier claimed the first point in doubles play after Zoe Manion and Natalie Moyer grabbed a 6-4 victory in the No. 3 spot. Sophia Abelson and Kaitlin Ruether followed the effort with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot, securing the point for the Musketeers. In the No. 1 spot, Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas also recorded a 6-2 win.
- In singles play, the Musketeers opened up with a 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot by the efforts of Emily Thomas. Teammate Ahmeir Kyle followed up the effort with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot, giving Xavier a 3-0 lead.
- Sophia Abelson extended Xavier's lead to 4-0 after a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nina Bertino in the No. 2 spot. Hunter Roper continued Xavier's success with another two-set win. Roper defeated Butler 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot.
- Xavier finished the match with two more victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots from the efforts of Kaitlin Ruether and Anna Letto. Ruether took the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, and Letto finished the match off with a 6-3, 6-3 win, giving Xavier a 7-0 win.

THE MUSKETEERS |
- Xavier's roster is deep and balanced, featuring a number of upperclassmen, including a pair of seniors, Sophia Abelson and Zoe Manion, and a pair of juniors, Lauren Fitz-Randolph and Rachael Reichenbach.
The Musketeers also return a pair of talented sophomores who made an immediate impact during their freshman seasons, Ahmeir Kyle and Kaitlin Ruether. - Head coach Doug Matthews also added a four-person freshman class, Anna Letto, Natalie Moyer, Hunter Roper and Emily Thomas.
- Xavier is 20-2 so far this season and have an 18-match winning streak dating back to Feb. 8.
- The Musketeers have earned the No. 1 seed for the first time since joining the BIG EAST.
