
Baseball Takes Game One Of Doubleheader Against Georgetown

Ryan Altenberger batted in season-high four runners in 9-4 victory over the Hoyas
CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball took game one of Saturday's doubleheader with a 9-4 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas. The Musketeers improve to 11-19 (2-0 BIG EAST) and capture the weekend series after earning a 7-4 win on Friday night.
Griffin Lanoue earned his third win of the season., moving to 3-2 on the year.
Conor Grammes' lead off-triple to right followed by a Georgetown throwing error, allowed Grammes to advance home to give the Musketeers an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Hoyas responded in the third inning with solo homerun, tying the game at one.Â
Xavier took the lead back in the fourth with a one-out rally starting with Jack Housinger drawing a walk. Housinger advanced to third on a Chris Givin double down the left field line. With two on, Ryan Altenberger had a base-clearing double to right, scoring Givin and Housinger to extend the lead to 3-1.Â
Georgetown brought Xavier's lead back to one, 3-2, crossing home plate on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth. Ryan Altenberger responded for the Musketeers with a solo blast to right field to make the score 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
Xavier's four-run seventh inning started with Allbry Major's lead-off walk and advancing to second on a Matt Warkentin single. Jack Housinger grounded out, resulting in Major advacing to third. Major crossed home when Altenberger drew a walk to give Xavier their first run of the inning. The Musketeer's rally continued with Luke Franzoni's two RBI single to left, to give Xavier it's biggest lead of the game, 7-2. Xavier's lead extended to 8-2 when Jake Shelpski drew a walk, scoring Ryan Altenberger.Â
Warkentin led off the eighth with a walk and advanced to second on Jack Housinger's single to center. Chris Givin's single through the left side which allowed Warkentin to round the bases and extend Xavier's advantage, 9-2.Â
The Hoyas' brought Xavier's lead to five, ending the game 9-4.Â
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader against the Hoyas is scheduled for first pitch at approximately 3:40 p.m. ET.
