Conor Grammes' career high in strikeouts helps Xavier in shutout victory over Hoyas
CINCINNATI - In the series finale against Georgetown, a walk-off double from Allbry Major scored Conor Grammes, securing Xavier's 1-0 victory over the Hoyas in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. The Musketeers swept the Hoyas going 3-0 on the BIG EAST opening series.
After eight and a half scoreless innings, Conor Grammes connected on a single through the left side. Allbry Major doubled down the right field line, advancing Grammes around the bases to put the Musketeers up 1-0.
Conor Grammes made his eighth start this season, finishing the game with a career high of 16 strikeouts. Grammes' 16 strikeouts is tied for second most strikeouts in a single game this season in the NCAA DI, and ties for most in a single game in the BIG EAST with Jack Cushing, who made the start for the Hoyas today. Grammes was one strikeout shy of tying Xavier's record of 17 strikeouts in a game, which is currently held by Bill Peters in 1997 and Bob Thorn in 1964.Â
