
Fitzpatrick Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Year, Three Musketeers Earn All-Conference Honors

NEW YORK - Junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick was named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Year on Thursday afternoon as voted on by conference head coaches. Fitzpatrick was joined on the seven-person all-conference team with Mikayla Smith and Lyndsey Hunnell.Â
Head coach Breanna Jenco was also named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, earning the honors for the second time in her career. She also picked up Co-BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors in 2016.
The Musketeers won the BIG EAST Championship on April 21 in Okatie, S.C., capturing the program's first conference title. Xavier defeated two-time defending champion Georgetown by 14 strokes.
Fitzpatrick earns all-conference honors for the third consecutive year. She also earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors in 2016.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native won the BIG EAST Individual Title, becoming the second Xavier player to claim the honors (Shane Crutchfield - 2016). Fitzpatrick won the individual title by nine strokes.
Mikayla Smith and Lyndsey Hunnell earned All-BIG EAST honors for the first time in their careers. Smith tied four fourth place at the conference championships, while Hunnell tied for eighth.Â
The Musketeers return to action at the East Lansing NCAA Regional on May 6-8 at the Forest Akers West Golf Course.
