Xavier closes out regular season this weekend against Cincinnati

W. LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Xavier baseball erased three-run deficit to tie the game late, but fell, 4-3 at Purdue in the final midweek game of the 2019 season. Xavier moves to 23-28 on the season.

Boilermaker runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings put Xavier down, 3-0, but a two-run seventh pulled the Musketeers within striking distance. Xavier tied it up in the eighth, but Purdue got the run back in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Xavier closes out the regular season with three games against Cincinnati this weekend, starting with a game at UC's Marge Schott Stadium on Thursday, and continues at Prasco Park on Friday before finishing the series at Great American Ballpark.

XU AT THE PLATE

Chris Givin went 2-of-3 at the plate, with a walk, scoring a run and collecting an RBI for the Musketeers.
Allbry Major went 2-of-4 at the plate, scoring a run for the Musketeers.
Ryan Altenberger's sixth-inning triple was his first of the season. Altenberger went 1-of-4 at the plate.
Luke Franzoni hit his fourth double of the season, going 1-of-4 at the plate.
Jack Housinger contributed a hit (1-of-4) and collected an RBI.

XU ON THE MOUND

Nick Zwack pitched 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Griffin Lanoue came in for the final out of the third inning, pitching 2.1 innings with one run allowed on two hits with one strikeout.
Trevor Olson came in to start the sixth, facing three batters in 0.1 innings of work.
Taylor Williams came in for the final two innings of the sixth, going 1.0 innings with no runs on one hit.
Trey Schramm entered with one out in the seventh, pitching 1.0 innings, striking out one. Schramm was charged with a run after leaving with baserunners on one hit and a walk.
Lane Flamm entered with one out in the eighth, going 0.2 innings with a strikeout and a pair of walks.

HOW THEY SCORED

SIXTH INNING | Chris Givin led the inning off with a single to left field, and Ryan Altenberger brought him home with a triple to right center to cut the lead to 3-1. Jack Housinger hit a single to right field to bring Altenberger home to make it 3-2.

EIGHTH INNING | Allbry Major singled to right field, then stole second to get into scoring position with two outs. Chris Givin singled to center field to bring Major home, tying the game, 3-3.
